[ music | Kevin Devine - Buried by the Buzz ]

Hi! I'm not dead!

Actually, this is just a very quick post to in fact let everyone know that I'm not dead. I'm struggling through my last few weeks of college everrr (graduation in less than a month! zomg!) right now, but I plan to possibly get back in the lj swing of things after that. Starting with pictures! of me! in California! And yes, I set aside a full day to go to In-N-Out Burger. Because it is that important.

Anyway, yeah. Back to writing papers and studying for exams. Waah. And I no longer have Friday Night Lights to distract me, as I finished the entire first season in four days. :O  But I did just watch the premiere of Drive, and I'm...slightly embarrassed to have loved it so much. And by slightly, I mean not at all. :D (Mal/Fred, Mal/Fred!)

Soooo. Pictures when I get back, aaaand have a nice day.

So. Finals are over, and my grades are in. Somehow I was able to pull off A's in all my classes. Clearly, I rule at life.

Popping out of hibernation to say that I now have a new layout at my journal. Yes, it's of ME. Because I'm just that tacky. I'm amused that I decided to change the layout now, as I hardly ever update this thing, and I have so much school work lined up that I probably won't have a chance to be online recreationally for a while. Woe!

But in happy news, there's a very good possibility that I might be going to Italy this summer for a study abroad course. Wheee! I'm currently on a waiting list of sorts, so I'll know by Wednesday or Thursday. It'll be for three weeks and will count as 6 hours of college credit. And hey, ITALY. :D

Back to sad news, my phone is on the fritz again. I have the worst luck with cellphones! They're all conspiring against me! It is annoying! I am annoyed! And even more depressing is that I want to watch the last three episodes of Love My Way, but I have two tests to study for. Bah. *thinks about Italy*

Dropping in to let everyone know that I am, in fact, not dead. College and, more importantly, watching the first season of Without a Trace have been taking up an obscene amount of time lately. I think my favourite aspect of this show is the random guest stars that I recognize from other shows. Jake Kane (playing a character named Duncan, ironically)! That dude from the submarine episode of Angel! Joan (of Arcadia) playing a craaazy person! All good things. And also, I am strangely shipping Martin with...just about everyone.

Let's see...in school-related news, I was recently assigned to draw a self-portrait. An assignment that I forgot about until...the night before it was due. It was hastily done, and I think the shadowing ended up looking more like, um, dirt, but it vaguely resembles me. Which is the most important thing, I suppose. Forgive the low-quality webcam pic; I had to improvise.

Ooh! *checks her watch* Time for a pointless but randomly amusing meme!

If you woke up and I was in bed with you, what would be your first thought?

Reply here, then post the above line in your own journal.

I'm stealing this Serenity review that [info]exsequar found because I find it to be one of the better objective reviews I've seen so far. Someone who isn't raving about the movie but isn't being an immature jerk about it either.

Here's a link to the article, and yes, it contains spoilers.

My thoughts about it. )

Overall, I enjoyed the review. It was written by someone who obviously loves the series, so I'm more inclined to hear her criticisms with an open mind. Anyway, I hope this post has made even the slightest of sense. I'm off to class now.

So. Serenity. I've seen it three times now. My short review is this: Oh. My. God.

However, I can't not ramble incoherently about this movie. So we here go. By the way, I'm writing and posting this before I read anyone else's thoughts. I'm definitely perusing my flist tomorrow and jumping into many a Serenity discussion.

Warning: major gushing and spoilers abound. )

I remember Joss once saying that his main goal was not to make something that people like, but to make something that they love. I have to say...job well done.

Watching it. I just...can't wait. At all. After I post this, I'm staying away from lj until I've seen it. I'm taking no risks. *bounces around* I can't believe it's finally here. All day, whenever I've written the date, I've had to hold back squeals of joy. Curse Joss for turning me into the biggest dork imaginable!

Well, I'm packing up my computer as soon as I post this, and I'll be headed to my campus tomorrow morning. Which reminds me, I talked to my soon-to-be roommate again today. Her name's Samantha, and she seems pretty cool so far. She called to let me know that she'd gone to scope out our future apartment. Apparently, our bedroom is so small that we're forced to have bunk beds. She asked me which I'd rather have (top or bottom), and I told her, in an effort to be polite, that it didn't matter. Sooo. She said that, because she was shorter (the ceilings aren't that high), she would take the top. Huzzah! Which, of course, I was perfectly fine with. Why? Because I'm incurably lazy. Oh! And she mentioned that there was only one desk in the room but that I could have it for my computer. Do I love her already? Why, yes. Yes, I do. I was telling my boyfriend earlier that, "I like her...so far, she's giving me everything I want." To which he replied, "You like that quality in people, don't you?" Which made me grin.

In other news, I got the first disc of Dead Like Me, season two, in the mail yesterday. Netflix owns me. I've watched the first episode and decided to write a mini-review on it. But am I pretty? )

I really should start packing today, considering I'm leaving on Sunday. But...meh. I'd rather put it off, and then? Put it off s'more.

And in that spirit, I have more fanart! I know, three wallpapers in the same week. The world is ending. Colouring this thing was an absolute nightmare. I had a very specific shade of pink in mind before I started, and I didn't think I'd ever get it. Because all I knew when I opened up PSP was that I wanted to make a Simon/River wallpaper, I wanted to use Fall Out Boy lyrics, and I wanted it to be pink.

800 x 600 or 1024 x 768

I was actually concerned that I wouldn't be able to find any appropriate FOB lyrics for Simon and River, but then "I Slept With Someone In Fall Out Boy And All I Got Was This Stupid Song Written About Me" (do I love this song title? yes, I do) came up on my playlist while I was making the wallpaper. My reaction consisted of a random mixture of 'oohs!' and 'eees!'

I think the lyrics are ambiguous enough to satisfy everyone, shippers and non. Because 'secrets' can either be referring to the things that were done to River whilst in hands-of-blue company or crazy space incest. :D

Aaah! I...can't stop manipulating Harry and Hermione closer to each other, then adding lyrics of whatever I happen to be listening to at the time. Plus, hey. 'Have to learn the lesson twice' ties in nicely with them going back in time 'cause they had to do stuff twice and everything, and I'm rambling now. Incidentally, the background of this? Is totally swirled-up pictures of my cat. :D

So I actually made a wallpaper today. The first one I've done in...months. The OTP meme I did a few days ago made me all shippy again, so I messed around with the only fandom-ish pictures I have on my computer at the moment: Goblet of Fire. More specifically, Harry/Hermione. And because I'm so lazy, I did the simplest photo manip of all time. Yes, you see Hermione there? I moved her from Harry's left side aaall the way over to his right side. Quite a journey it was. Okay, enough blabbering.

Lyrics are from Careful by Guster. From Hermione's point of view.

[ music | Morning After - Howie Day ]

So I went to a concert a few weeks ago with my good friend Jess. My first actual concert ever. And in this one concert, I got to see (and, you know, hear) not one, but two artists that I'm rather in love with. Howie Day and Missy Higgins. No, not together...unfortunately. She opened for him. So she sang about five or six songs (including "The Special Two," which just really made my night) before Howie Day graced the stage.

Oh, and by the way, Missy Higgins? Is one of the most adorable people I've ever met. During her song "This Is How It Goes," she tricked the audience into thinking the song was over. You know, stopping the music and holding out that last note. But when the audience started to cheer and applaud, she immediately started the song up again, grinned, and stuck out her tongue. Absolute cuteness. She sounded amazing, and I would love to see a full concert of just her sometime. And hee! I got my Sound of White album signed! *treasures*

Oh, yes. Howie Day was there, too. With his trademark crazy hair. I went and got myself heels-over-head obsessed with him about a week before the concert. Bought both his albums and downloaded a ton of non-album stuff (including a 30-minute live mpeg :D). And you know what? I'm really glad I did. Because the music was loud. Really, really loud. And if I hadn't known the songs and lyrics before-hand, I would've been completely lost. The energy was very contagious, and even though Howie was somewhat drowned out by the music, I loved every second.

By the way, I was right at the stage. Like, I could've jumped up, walked about seven feet, and hugged Howie if I'd really wanted to. Of course, I would've been kindly (or not-so-kindly) escorted away from the concert if I had. Howie's first words on the stage were, "You guys are kind of close, aren't you?" He got a lot of fangirly screams in response.

All in all, I had an awesome time and would see them both again in a heartbeat. And now...I went through and picked out some (and by some, I mean twenty) pictures of this lovely little concert. So, this cut is not dial-up friendly. Believe me, I know.

If the fashion ad were here, you'd be in it. )

Oh, and because I'm so fabulous, I uploaded a few on-topic songs. Missy and Howie-related, I mean. All the Howie mp3s are covers, so if covers aren't your thing, beware. But if you do take something, I'd appreciate a comment.

Missy Higgins - The Cactus that Found the Beat
I really don't think there's any Missy song that I don't like. Her voice is just too captivating, and this song is so fun. She has such attitude. And honestly, how can I not love a song that has both "how I found my way to God" and "waves of ecstacy" as lyrics?

Howie Day - In the Sun
Howie Day does some of my favourite covers, and I've inflicted shared a bunch of them with anyone who'll listen. I just...love how he vocally mimics whoever he's covering. This is a Joseph Arthur cover. 'Tis pretty.

More songs. )

You know, it's never really occurred to me how Simon-like I am. But I really am. So I went to the zoo a few days ago with my boyfriend, my brother, and my brother's girlfriend. 'Twas lots of fun, especially considering that the only times I've ever actually been to the zoo was on a school field trip. Heh, we spent half the afternoon in the big cat section, and I was reminded of Wallace's quote, "Aw, man, I love the zoo. Everyone gets all excited about the monkey house. I'm a big cat man myself." You'll notice that, of the images I chose to post, about half of them feature kitty cats. I can't help it. They're just so pretty! Oh, and we're fairly positive that this zoo has some sort of panda conspiracy going on. Because every picture we took of them came out fuzzy. Bah. But anyway, behind the cut lies fifteen random picture selections. Not exactly dial-up friendly.

2. The Wallflowers - God Says Nothing Back
3. Fiona Apple - Not About Love

3. Brand New - Jude Law and a Semester Abroad
4. Dashboard Confessional - Several Ways to Die Trying
5. The Decemberists - Here I Dreamt I Was an Architect

It's so cold in Alaska. [June 4th, 2005 @ 12:31am]
[ mood | worried ]
[ music | Stephanie Says - Velvet Underground ]

I'm rather terrified right now. My mom's packed her bags and is leaving tomorrow at 5:30 in the morning to fly across the freaking country. She'll end up in Seattle and will then board the Diamond Princess, which is the absolute girliest name I have ever heard for a ship. And from there, it's all whale sightings and glacier dodging and other Alaskan cruise-type activities. I think I plan to just sleep the entire time she'll be up in the air. That way, I can cheat and not have to deal with the insane worry that would undoubtedly plague me.

She asked me what I wanted her to bring me back, and I answered, "A penguin." This was my response despite being told by everyone ever that there are no penguins in Alaska. Though I can't imagine why not. It's cold there, right? The Velvet Underground is telling me so even as I type.

This article absolutely cracks me up. It took me a while to figure out that this guy wasn't kidding. Dude, how awesome would this job be? I mean, I could do without the yak butter and the lice-covered blankets, but c'mon. Pushing monks into the ocean? :D Not that I have anything against monks, of course. On the contrary, I've often thought that Asian religions seem to be more in touch with the truth than anything else I've been exposed to. But I'm sorry, I just can't not laugh at that first sentence.

So, to balance out all this Alaska business, I shall briefly mention my Florida plans. My boyfriend, his dad, his sister, his sister's friend, his sister's boyfriend, and I (got all that?) will be leaving on the hopefully sunny Saturday morning of June 18th. Though I suppose it doesn't really matter what the weather is like here, so long as it's not raining or cloudy at our destination. We're supposed to go parasailing and bumper-car racing and stuff, but I honestly can't wait to just be walking along the beach. Maybe I'll try that sinking thing that Kate is so skilled in. I've only been to the ocean once, and that was ten years ago. Let's just say I look slightly better in a bikini now. Speaking of, getting a tan is officially annoying. I planned on laying out in our side yard for the next two weeks, in an attempt to not look like a ghost flobbling along the shoreline, but the weather here will not cooperate. So I decided to venture into the wondrous world of indoor tanning. I tried browsing around for information, but all I could really find was 'tanning equals DEATH.' Meh. As of today, I've been twice. Other than nearly blinding myself and not having any midgets around to put tanning lotion on my back, it wasn't so bad. Oh, and maybe I just didn't pay attention in math class, but I really don't understand the deals they've got going on at this salon. They informed me that I could get five sessions for twenty-five dollars...or that I could get a month's worth of sessions for twenty-five dollars. Um, hello? What, what?

Well. I'm off to find some fic for a new incestuous fandom I've discovered. Or rather, a new fandom that I'm projecting incestuous themes onto. And no, I'm not going to say what fandom. Why? Because I fear that someday, someone on my friends list is going to do the right thing and have me committed.
